Nopal Cactus: Magic for your Skin.

Nopal Cactus: Magic for your Skin.

During our travels to Morocco and Italy a few years ago, we discovered the hidden gem, Prickly Pear Plant. We quickly became addicted to the the fruit being readily available fresh off the plant in the local towns across both countries. We were eager to find out more and discovered the wonderful benefits Nopal has for your skin. It really is like magic.

The Nopal Cactus plant is in fact one of the fundamental symbols of Mexico. It is considered la planta de vida (the life-giving plant) as it seems to never die. Fallen pencas (leaves) form new plants, therefore an apt symbol of the life-rebirth cycle found in the most ancient of Mexican myths.

Nopal is taken from harvesting the pad of the Cactus plant, not fruit itself.
High in antioxidants and phytochemical Nopal contains 17 amino acids and antioxidants that can prevent damage from the sun.

Along with that, Nopal is loaded with an impressive spectrum of vitamins. Vitamin A for anti-aging, fighting free radicals and moisturising, whilst Vitamin C brightens, stimulating cell turnover and increasing skin elasticity with Vitamin K assisting with preventing the the signs of scarring within the skin tissue.

It is also one of the most betalain rich plants you can find, a pigment extremely high in antioxidants. What is Betalains? The pigments that make the nopal cactus fruits the bright red color they are.
