Chamomile Oil

Origin: Australian Grown

Type: Steam Distillation

Anthemis Nobilis
Widely used zillions of years ago, (it’s gotta be good when it’s been used for THAT long), Chamomile is one of the oldest therapeutic herbs known to humankind. It has superhuman anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antibacterial and antiseptic abilities which make it epic for sensitive or acne prone skin types, oh and it's also magically able to help heal skin wounds.

Acne is one of the most common skin issues that most people experience, and unsurprisingly chamomile helps to relieve and soothe the skin due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. It also helps to help lighten discolouration and reduce the signs of UV damage whilst reducing signs of premature ageing such as wrinkles and uneven skin tone.

This super oil helps fight and block out irritants by eliminating those pesky free radicals which damage your skin and accelerate the ageing process. Bursting with antioxidants, chamomile oil works like a ninja to reduce acne inflammation, breakouts, and minor scar.

Due to the social, environmental and ethical implications caused by the palm oil industry, this ingredient is a no go zone for us. Why? The production of palm oil contributes to destroying the habitats of endangered animals through rapid deforestation. Its low cost is why palm oil is used in so many ingredients, sometimes hidden by using ‘vegetable oil’. There is absolutely no guarantee that the palm oil produced is from a conflict-free and sustainable resource. So that’s a big no from us.

Himalayan Salt

Origin: Pakistan

Type:

Yep, you guessed it. Himalayan sea salt comes all the way from the himalayan mountains (we know that was a real brain teaser). Ancient oceans actually deposited these salts more than 250 million years ago when the mountains were being formed and lucky for you we happened to get our hands on some (so you don’t have to trek all the way to Pakistan to do it yourself).

We can all agree that having any kind of bath is relaxing but by adding some himalayan salt to yours, you can instantly feel like you’ve transported yourself to a sunny beach somewhere thanks to its ability to calm, soothe and relax.

Having a himalayan salt bath can also be good to alleviate all those hard to reach places of their acne (think the back or shoulders). It is because of the antimicrobial properties found in salt that kick butt when it comes to treating skin conditions like acne, or even psoriasis and eczema, helping to reduce scaling, redness and irritation. There’s literally no negatives to test driving this salt when you’re having your next bath with the positives being a relaxed state of mind and a body free of all its acne.

Jojoba

Origin: Israel - Jojoba Desert

Type: Golden Virgin

Simmondsia Chinensis
Jojoba Oil (pronounced ho-ho-ba) is actually a liquid wax rather than an oil, and it closely resembles the natural production of sebum in the skin. Jojoba is chock-full with nutrients such as Vitamin E and B, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that all work their magic to help repair damaged skin cells, fight premature ageing and provide long lasting moisture and hydration for the skin. Permeating deep into the skin, this superhero oil is well suited to all skin types, but particularly sensitive, oily and combination skin.

Kicking signs of ageing, fine lines and wrinkles to the curb, Jojoba oil actually boasts the ability to reduce oiliness as it mimics the skin’s natural sebum production therefore reducing excessive oil production. Jojoba Oil can almost ‘trick’ the skin into thinking it has produced enough oil (sebum), therefore reducing excessive oil production. This, in turn, can also be effective in controlling acne breakouts.

We use virgin Jojoba Oil straight from the Jojoba Desert in Israel. Read more about our supplier and their sustainable practices here: https://buttnakedbody.com.au/pages/suppliers

Mica

Let your skin sparkle thanks to Fluorophlogopite! More commonly known as Mica, this man-made version works just as well as the natural one with the only real difference being one is made in a lab and the other isn't. This means you get glittering skin that even Edward Cullen would be jealous of!

Now normally we're all for including natural ingredients in our products but there's a very good reason why we opt to include a man-made version instead of the natural one. There are a lot of human rights issues involved in the mining process of natural mica (mainly surrounding child labour) so obvs that's a big no-no from us, and despite being man-made, it's friends with the environment and made up of natural minerals. But don't worry, this ingredient isn't produced from the raw material of plastics. No sir.

The Fluorphlogopite within this product is synthetic, meaning it's produced when Magnesium aluminium silicate is bound by Potassium through the use of extreme heat (1500 degrees Celsius). In other words, it's been consciously created with your health in mind. The purity of synthetic mica is also higher so bold colours and dazzling shimmers can be achieved more easily, allowing your skin to sparkle the way it deserves.

Magnesium Aluminium Silicate
A naturally occurring clay comprised of magnesium, aluminium, silica, and oxygen. The Cosmetic Database has been deemed it safe for use in cosmetic and beauty products, as it hasn't been found to be irritating or sensitising with no known side effects. However allergy can still be possible due to the aluminium found in the ingredient.

Safety? Because magnesium aluminium silicate has very large molecules, it's unable to be absorbed into the skin and is unlikely to affect the endocrine, immune, or reproductive systems.

Propanediol

Purpose: moisturise + hydrate

A colourless liquid that is derived from corn plants and can be an renewable sourced alternative to petroleum-derived glycols. this ingredient is a super moisturiser and is used in various skincare products due to its hydrating abilities. Naturally high in glycol, propanediol allows for the enhancement of other ingredient absorption and leaves a smooth, often dewy and glowy finish to the skin.

How do they make it you ask? It starts with corn. Harvested kernels are dried and prepared for wet-milling, where the sugar-rich starch is extracted. The dried kernels are soaked in hot water and mild acid, softening the shell to release starch. Next up, they are ground, screened and centrifuged to separate the starch from the protein, the sugar derived from the starch becomes the raw material for propanediol. A microorganism is then introduced to the corn sugar for fermentation, once complete, the Propanediol is purified and refined.

So is it safe? Hell yes. Considered safe for cosmetic and food products. Propanediol is approved from EcoCert™ (an internationally recognized natural and organic seal) and the Natural Product Association (US based natural personal care certification).
